If you have any questions, we would love to try and help you. Please email us at info@legobasedtherapy.ie. Here are some questions we often get asked, but yours might be different, so do get in touch!
Q. Do you run training courses in other places?
Most of our courses are run in our Dublin, Galway & Cork to allow people have easy access to our training. However, we do sometimes offer courses in different parts of the country. Please check our Facilitator Training page for further details of course location.
Q. Do you do webinars or online training?
Not at the moment, though this is something we are working on! Face-to-face training is the preferred training at the moment as individual experience is shaped and problems solved. We'll keep you posted! We are always happy to consider individual requests.
Q. Do you have courses for parents?
We have a day where parents can come and experience Lego Therapy for themselves.
Q. Can you come and train our team?
Yes! We travel out to teams and services and if we can do it, it often works out to be cost effective and an efficient way to share knowledge for a whole school, service or team. Do email us to check if we have any availability on info@legobasedtherapy.ie
Q. How can Lego® therapy help to develop social skills for children?
LEGO®-based therapy is a fun social skills intervention for children. By working together to build LEGO® models as a team, children practice many social skills, such as turn taking, communication, listening and shared attention. Children learn whilst playing and having fun, and the adult facilitates a social problem solving approach for any social difficulties that naturally arise in the session.
Q. What are the benefits of Lego® therapy?
The research on the benefits of LEGO®-based therapy is limited, however, you may expect to see improvements in social skills, communication, self-esteem and emotional well-being.
Q. How does Lego® therapy improve communication skills for children?
In LEGO®-based therapy, children take it in turns to play different roles, for example, the engineer describes the pieces and where to put them (even though everyone can see the picture to help), the supplier finds the bricks and the builder puts the model together. Children take it in turns whilst building the model to play the different roles, so they each get a chance to describe pieces and listen to instructions. This improves communication and social interaction.
Q. How effective is Lego® therapy for Autism?
Like all interventions for autism, LEGO®-based therapy works well for some children, but not for others. If a child likes LEGO® and has an average or just below average language and ability level, then LEGO®-based therapy could work very well. Some research studies show that LEGO-based therapy improves social skills and behavior of children with autism. More research is needed. It’s important to evaluate your LEGO®-based therapy sessions so that you know whether what you are doing is helping that individual child or not.
